Does God Exist?

For many years people have argued over god. People question his existence and people fight over his role in the world. So I want to explore the idea if god actually exists.

Many say God created man. I say Man created God.

Man invented an idea of god and every religion that believes in god believes that god was actually discovered by man. Judaism believes that abraham discovered god. Christianity and Islam both also believe this yet they expand on the idea and have jesus and allah who have spoken with god.

In other religions such as Buddhism and hinduism there can be many gods. In budaism these were created by buddha yet in hinduism it is not known who created this concept, but the concept of gods exists.

So it is clear to see that god does exist and his existence is dependant on man and mans belief in this concept.

Lets look at another man made concept which I feel is similar to god, this is money. Money exists also only due to man and mans belief in it. In different cultures money can take on different forms, such as cattle, wives, gold and silver. Does money actually exist? Yes, but it only exists because man created it.

There are ancient tribes who do not use money and who do not need money to live, however they can not say that money does not exist because it does, just not in their culture. So too people can’t say god doesn’t exist. He does just not in their life. Would god actually exist if man didn’t create him is the same as asking if money would exist if man didn’t create it.

I feel that money and god are very similar concepts. Both are man made and highly dependent on your belief in them. There is one main difference in that money is needed in modern society to live and survive. It is a man made concept that has overtaken this world and I don’t think it’s for the better. Good thing that the concept of god has not overtaken this world yet, as I do not feel that would be for the best either.

Think of how many fights are due to money. Think of how people are judged based on the amount of money they have. Think of the different standards of living based on money. Lets keep this world as a world where beliefs can be free and independent and not turn the concept of god into money. Lets not let belief in god divide the people on earth as this will cause more harm than good. Every person no matter of their belief in god and their religion, should put that aside and not let this effect their judgement of others. I have many close family and friends who are extremely religious and believe in god and we are still so close because we don’t allow the difference in our beliefs affect our relationship. We are able to see past this, they do their thing and I do my thing and that’s fine. It would be great if others did the same.

I agree with you, sort of. Voltaire said that, “If God did not exist, we’d have to invent him.” Well, in my opinion God does exist but man invented him anyway. Not knowing what God was like (see the Pascal Wager), man created him in his own image.

Interesting thought, but one that eats its own head. You think a god exists because you are a human. A cat or bird does not think God exists, because they don’t have the brain capacity. Forever, humans have invented answers to questions. What is the wind? It is evil spirits. Why do i have the hiccups? Someone is talking about me. The concept of God is just another human invention. There is NO EVIDENCE that a god exists. But we now have scientific explanations for things. Eg. Yes, the big bang COULD just happen, randomly. Humans are a freak of nature. The fact that we look for reasons for why we exist is just because of our brains. Inevitably, the paradigm of God is self -enclosed : believers have an explanation for everything. But : no proof. Only fairy tales. Human fairy tales.

Except that people like Einstein believe as Einstein did that, “Every one who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe – a spirit vastly superior to that of man….” To some, that might be construed as evidence.

well, this is an endless recurring doubt for most of humanity. since i have come to the conclusion that each of us has a limited time to arrive to a conclusion it forced to come with a solution for myself, shared below, on this subject:

there is no tangible way to know if it exists or not, but with all our humility, we should act and behave as it really exists, mainly creating within ourselves, the “fear of god”, something which i have heard about for so long but never understood its meaning.

it took a goy, john adams, to enlighten me when i read from him: “I will insist that the Hebrews have done more to civilize Men than any other Nation. If I were an Atheist and believed in blind eternal Fate, I should Still believe that Fate had ordained the Jews to be the most essential Instrument for civilizing the Nations. If I were an Atheist of the other Sect, who believe or pretend to believe that all is ordered by Chance, I Should believe that Chance had ordered the Jews to preserve and propagate, to all Mankind the Doctrine of a Supreme intelligent wise, almighty Sovereign of the Universe, which I believe to be the great essential Principle of all Morality and consequently of all Civilization.”

so we need to “act as if”, because all foundation of civilization really is based on this concept. so i accepted, that there is an irrational side of me, which is part of “me”, and i need to learn to live with it for my benefit and the society i live in.

a friend of mine, hearing this, asked me: if i am an atheist, does this mean i cannot have moral values and be civilized ?
to which i replied that there is no atheist in a vacuum. whoever considers him today an atheist is impregnated from concepts coming from a society civilized by moral values coming from religious sources, so, actually there is no pure atheist in discussion here, but if there was one, it might not be able to live and evolve in a society of only pure atheists.
